Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 – April 15, 16, 17
The King’s College Chapel Choir is suspending its cycle of Bach masterworks for one year to present another great pillar of the Baroque repertoire – the Vespers of 1610 by Claudio Monteverdi. A monumental work scored for soloists, choir, and orchestra, the Vespers foreshadowed the religious masterworks of Bach and Handel, and has earned a place in the history of western music as a revolutionary and now iconic work.
Featuring the King’s choristers alongside 14 instrumentalists on period instruments, well-known British tenor Charles Daniels, a cast of early music soloists from across Canada, and the boy sopranos of Capella Regalis Men & Boys Choir, this tour of performances in three of Nova Scotia’s architectural gems promises an outstanding musical and educational experience for students and audience members alike.
This is your chance to see Monteverdi’s masterwork in all the splendour with which it is performed in Europe and the major urban centres of North America, right here in Nova Scotia!

A King’s Christmas 2015
Back for its eighth year, A King’s Christmas is a feast of seasonal song and story directed by five-time Grammy winner Paul Halley, featuring the University of King’s College Chapel Choir performing a beautiful blend of carols from the medieval to the modern. Veteran New York City stage and TV actor R. Bruce Connelly joins the group as guest narrator and will intersperse the music with readings for the season, including poetry, excerpts from novels, short stories, and other literary works.

We’ll get it out by June in time for the festivals this summer. 2 weeks ago tonight I picked up Tim O’Brien and his lovely gal Jan at the airport in Halifax quite late for an inspired week of music making in a beautiful cabin I built by hand on my land. Can’t wait to share the results. My first recording project I’ve done at home and the first that required a backhoe to clear a road through the snow to get the studio gear in. Exciting. Look for it on True North records sometime in June or July, inshalla.”
